St. Emilion, the wine village in the famous Bordeaux wine region, is reachable by train from Bordeaux.

It's bustling and brimming with tourists in the summer and virtually empty in the winter months.

Pop-Over to Nearby Places

From Bordeaux, it's easy to pop-over to nearby St. Emilion and the Arcachon Dunes, or travel a bit farther to the seaside resort town of Biarritz, on southwestern France's Basque coast. Just a bit further, and you find yourself in San Sebastian, Spain.

Family Snapshot

We bought a couple of expensive St. Emilion wines, brought them home and had a blind tasting with friends that included a quality California Merlot. In the end, we all won.
