Bordeaux has incredible charm. The main pedestrian street is lively and full of residents out running errands or simply enjoying the city.

Unlike the main pedestrian street (above), most inner city streets in Bordeaux are narrow, uncrowded and lined with interesting little markets, spice stores, bakeries and more. Quaint and delightful, the city offered a new corner of exploration each day.

Pop-Over to Nearby Places

From Bordeaux, it's easy to pop-over to nearby St. Emilion and the Arcachon Dunes, or travel a bit farther to the seaside resort town of Biarritz, on southwestern France's Basque coast. Just a bit further, and you find yourself in San Sebastian, Spain.

Family Snapshot

Staying in a flat in the city center, we loved renting bikes almost daily and exploring every nook and cranny. The bike rental kiosk gives you the first 30 minutes free, and you can pick up and drop off at completely different locations anywhere in the city. We once took the train to an outer suburb, grabbed two bikes and easily rode them all the way Return to the city center.
