While visiting Bordeaux, we hopped a train to San Sebastian, Spain, in the Basque country of northern Spain. It's an attractive town on a big protected harbor with a beach that's packed in the summer months.
Travelling to a "summer place" in the winter can give you a completely different travel experience. Among other things, the local residents are more interested in why you are there!
The fun part of San Sebastian is the tapas! We spent several evenings, dropping in on pubs where you can grab a drink and buy small plates of intriguing appetizers and aged meats laid out on the bar.
An enchanting city is southwest France.
