Love of Language
I've always loved languages. But I also love that language is only a small part of human communication and that expression, gesture, demeanor, context and familiarity are as powerful as words. English is widely spoken worldwide, but sometimes, in some places, you have to go that extra mile to figure out what's being communicated. Language is like code, and I love that it's a code that can be slowly deciphered with effort.
A grumpy bartender in Slovakia haughtily pointed up to this sign and walked away when we asked for our beer choices.

China. Sometimes the attempted translation is pretty humorous.

Japan has little English outside of major cities. We actually managed to figure out our bus stop by studying this schedule.

Non-Latin based languages can be tricky but most likely "Salaty" on this menu means "salad."
