Utah is culturally unique in the US, as home to a substantial, conservative, family-oriented Mormon population. It's also the home of a large number of glorious national parks.
The small and very pleasant town of St. George, Utah is a good base for exploration of both Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park.
It's a bit tricky to figure out when to visit these parks. Bryce, Zion and Cedar Breaks are at high elevations so the weather can be unpleasantly cold in the winter months and roads to Cedar Breaks are only open in the summer months. In the summer, because it is desert, the temperature can be excessive.
